RAO'S PODIUM -94 NINETY FOUR

  • This refers to Kubja (also known as Trivakra) from the Bhagavata Purana. She was a hunchbacked maidservant in King Kamsa’s palace in Mathura who carried fragrant sandalwood paste for the king.
  • The Story of Kubja and Krishna
    • The Meeting: When the young Lord Krishna and Balarama first arrived in Mathura, they crossed paths with Kubja.
    • She was carrying bowls of beautifully prepared sandalwood paste (chandan) intended for King Kamsa.
    • The Offering: Captivated by Krishna's divine charm, Kubja ignored the rules of the kingdom and freely offered the best of her sandalwood paste to him and Balarama.
    • The Transformation: In return for her pure devotion, Krishna stepped lightly on her feet and gently placed his fingers under her chin to lift her up. Instantly, her three deformities were healed, her hunchback was straightened, and she was transformed into a remarkably beautiful woman.
  • Symbolism
In Hindu philosophy, this tale represents how the divine responds to sincere devotion. Kubja offered something that belonged to the oppressor (Kamsa) but offered it with a pure, loving heart to Krishna, demonstrating that the Lord accepts pure devotion over rigid protocOL.
